When I was younger my Dad used to read to me and at my primary school there was an extensive library of picture books and Ladybird books. I suppose that's how it began.
As I got older I spent time on other things; I struggled with maths and spelling so that took up quite a bit of my time, so for a while reading was neglected for other things... until in primary school I entered Year Two.
Till this day my Year Two teacher remains my favourite, they nurtured and encouraged my love of reading and I am so thankful. There are two books that properly got me into reading and both are by Michael Morpurgo.
The first is The Butterfly Lion.

The first is The Butterfly Lion.
The Butterfly Lion is about a boy named Bertie who rescues an orphaned white lion cub from the African veld. They are inseparable until Bertie is sent to boarding school far away in England and the lion is sold to a circus. Bertie swears that one day they will see one another again, but it is the butterfly lion which ensures that their friendship will never be forgotten.
The second is The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips.
The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips is as follows; It’s 1943, and Lily Tregenza lives on a farm, in the idyllic seaside village of Slapton. Her life is scarcely touched by the war until one day Lily and her family, along with all of the other villagers, are told to move out of their homes – lock, stock and barrel.
Soon, the whole area is out of bounds, as the Allied forces practice their landings for D-day, preparing to invade France. But Tips, Lily’s adored cat, has other ideas – barbed wire and keep-out signs mean nothing to her, nor does the danger of guns and bombs. Frantic to find her, Lily decides to cross the wire into the danger zone to look for Tips herself…
As I got older, I continued to cherish reading. I read an awful lot of books by Roald Dahl, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda and also books by Enid Blyton such as The Magic Faraway Tree and The Famous Five books.
When I was about nine years old I discovered a series of books which genuinely changed my life; Harry Potter. I know everyone says that but it is true, without J. K. Rowling's phenomenal tales of a boy wizard and his magical adventures, I wouldn't be where I am today. Did you know that someone starts reading Harry Potter every 30 seconds?
The Queen and an old lady in a hat. ^^^
When I started High School I was overjoyed to find that there was a library.
Now, six years later, I love reading more than ever although I don't think my bookshelf is quite as enthusiastic (there are so many books on it now that I'm surprised it hasn't collapsed).
Don't forget to comment below which books got you into reading!
Bye for now,
Olive
